West Coast Conference Kids Day - March 2009

In conjunction with the 2009 WCC Basketball Championships in Las Vegas, the WCC and Zappos Fulfillment Centers donated over 5,200 new and gently used pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls.  Of those 5,200, about 1,000 new shoes were distributed to at-risk youth from the Clark County School District and the After School All Star program in Las Vegas on March 9, 2009. Over 40 Zappos Merchandising employees volunteered to help distribute the shoes.

Polar Bear Plunge 2009 - February 2009

On February 28th, 32 brave Zappos Fulfillment Centers (ZFC) employees battled temperatures in the 30's and wind chills in the 20's to take the Polar Bear Plunge into the Ohio River in Louisville. This was the second year in a row that a team from the ZFC participated in the annual fundraiser for Special Olympics of Kentucky. The ZFC Ice Shoes dressed in their best nerd costumes and raised $5,785 as they were freezin' for a reason. A special shout out goes to Facilities Manager Mike Bredensteiner, who promised/threatened to plunge wearing a speedo if we raised $1000. With a bit of help from the Finance team from Zappos.com, Inc. in Las Vegas, we reached the goal and Mike carried out his promise like a champ. For their efforts, Special Olympics awarded the ZFC Ice Shoes the Frigid Cup, for the top fundraising team in their team size. Team members plan to spend the rest of 2009 thawing out and trying to get the courage up to plunge again in 2010!

What can you do with a denim jacket? - February 2009

The Detroit AIDS Prevention Coalition asked 100 people to decorate a denim jacket that would be auctioned to raise money for their cause. Zappos Development was picked and Creative Services answered the call. We decided instead of ruining the jacket we would donate it to a homeless shelter so someone in need could use it. The whole team also brought some of their own clothing to donate to the shelter. Then to represent us in the challenge Creative Services made a representation of the denim jacket out of Zappos.com boxes.

Holiday Toy Drive - December 2008

Our employees helped collect new toys for the NCCF this year. We raised over 140 toys that went to needy families, children in the hospital over the holiday, and for their treasure chest program which gives each child a toy to help distract them while receiving various treatments.

Kentucky Holiday Giving - December 2008

This holiday season the Zappos Fulfillment Centers teamed up with the Bullitt County Family Resource Centers to help some families holiday wishes come true! The Family Resource Centers are grant funded agencies within the school system that assists families with a variety of needs, as well as bring great programming opportunities to our students and families. We're very proud to say that employees helped 86 children have a great Christmas this year! Approximately 70 kids were helped by Zappos Fulfillment Centers (ZFC) employees directly! The remaining kids were taken care of by the money raised from the sale of left over fleece jackets! Way to go ZFC employees!
