Summer of Social Good - August 2009

Zappos sponsored the Summer of Social Good charity fundraiser, which is raising donations equally for the Humane Society, LiveSTRONG, Oxfam America and WWF via social media. Through our efforts and support, 100% of all donations made and tickets sold for the Social Good Conference on August 28th went straight to the charity fund.

Bowl for Kids Sake - Big Brothers Big Sisters - March 2009

For the second year in a row, Zappos.com employees got together for the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Bowl for Kids’ Sake. This is a major fund raiser for BBBS. Bowlers were required to raise $80 in pledges to participate. Zappos.com pledged $60 to each employee that bowled. 34 employees turn out for the event raising $2,732. A Big shout out to Mi K. for being the top fundraiser with $180.

The day was a success! Professional bowlers and some not-so-professional bowlers alike bowled side by side. But, it wasn’t about the highest score; it was about raising money for the kids and having fun at the same time. While most of us barely broke triple digit scores we all laughed until it hurt!

Polar Bear Plunge 2009 - February 2009

On February 28th, 32 brave Zapponians battled temperatures in the 30's and wind chills in the 20's to take the Polar Bear Plunge into the Ohio River in Louisville. This was the second year in a row that a team from Zappos participated in the annual fundraiser for Special Olympics of Kentucky. The Zappos.com Ice Shoes dressed in their best nerd costumes and raised $5,785 as they were freezin' for a reason. A special shout out goes to Facilities Manager Mike Bredensteiner, who promised/threatened to plunge wearing a speedo if we raised $1000. With a bit of help from the Finance team in Las Vegas, we reached the goal and Mike carried out his promise like a champ. For their efforts, Special Olympics awarded the Zappos.com Ice Shoes the Frigid Cup, for the top fundraising team in their team size. Team members plan to spend the rest of 2009 thawing out and trying to get the courage up to plunge again in 2010!

What can you do with a denim jacket? - February 2009

The Detroit AIDS Prevention Coalition asked 100 people to decorate a denim jacket that would be auctioned to raise money for their cause. Zappos was picked and Creative Services answered the call. We decided instead of ruining the jacket we would donate it to a homeless shelter so someone in need could use it. The whole team also brought some of their own clothing to donate to the shelter. Then to represent Zappos in the challenge Creative Services made a representation of the denim jacket out of Zappos boxes.
